Biography

Though I'm originally from North Alabama, I've lived in North Georgia since 1993 when I moved to Athens to pursue my PhD in English at the University of Georgia. I've been teaching English at the college level since 1991 with brief forays into high school and a memorable three-year stint as a teacher and administrator at a preschool at Emory University. For the last ten years, I've also run a freelance editing business serving trade and small-press publishers specializing in speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

My research interests include Appalachian fiction and dialect, educational technology, and Gothic and Modernist literature.

When I'm not teaching, grading essays, or researching and writing, I enjoy spending time at home, which is twenty-five wooded acres inhabited by two large dogs, an elderly cat, an occasional flock of chickens, assorted wildlife, and two outnumbered humans.
